A quick Google search of “Product Lifecycle” usually brings up that chart you might have seen once in school.

This lifecycle encompasses four stages: Development (or Introduction), Growth, Maturity, and Decline.

That first stage, development, is where engineering, product, and design teams create products. Yet, there’s not much information available about this phase of the Product Lifecycle, which contains an additional cycle within it called the Product Development Life Cycle.

Why not?

The main reason is because every organization is different. It’s not exactly a “one size fits all” process. Even two software companies with similar tech stacks, the same…

Several years ago I made the shift from D&I to I&D when talking about inclusion and diversity in the workplace. Both at the office and in my day-to-day life I was hearing heated discussion about nomenclature of inclusion, diversity, and equity. Which of these should be emphasized in mentality and thus operationalization of process, practice and policies for companies striving for growth of inclusion and diversity efforts? Some of the names thrown around included Inclusion & Diversity (I&D), Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), and Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The research that I conducted, summarized below, led me to make the…

Below is a list of resources for folks who are interested in or new to product. See below my quick thoughts on takeaway for getting a PM role and also what people don’t tell you about being a PM followed by resources to check out if of interest!

While being a PM it isn’t saying “here is what we are doing” and kicking your feet up waiting for the finished product, it is definitely a fun and exciting role and has many moments that are incredibly rewarding.

My main takeaway for getting a job in product from spending 10+ years…

I have searched for information on the Group Product Manager (GPM) role and responsibilities a number of times and the only article that I have found to be helpful is the Silicon Valley Product Group (SVPG — Marty Cagan’s organization) article on “The GPM role”. This post is helpful but doesn’t go into depth about the responsibilities and goals of a GPM and also doesn’t differentiate substantially between a GPM and Director of product in regard to responsibilities. I have outlined my understanding of the latter below!

The core differentiator between a Group Product Manager and Director of Product is…

While there are a number of articles about how to groom your backlog and conduct Sprint planning from the perspective of prioritization, I haven’t found a comprehensive checklist of all of the steps that scrum, Product and development/engineering teams need to take for the full management of a Sprint. So my team and I made one!

We put together this checklist in order to document and scale our Product team and processes. This checklist goes through every step that we take during Sprint management. For context, we use Jira for ticket management and our Sprints currently run for four (4)…

There are lists and articles across the internet of the best software products for product teams. There are hundreds of tools and while initial tool analysis can be helpful, i’ve found that many tools are effectively functionally equivalent and instead of spending hours evaluating, it’s better to determine must have features, pick a tool, and spend most of your time actually using the tool!

I wanted to give you the details of the software that our product team uses daily in order to stay productive (especially while remote) which will hopefully help you fill in any gaps in your own…
